OK. So I’ve had this problem since arriving here: finding decent wine. The Chinese wine is cough syrup swill- the smell alone will burn your nose hairs off- so I’ve been spending at least $20 pretty good imported Australian Wine- the cheapest bottle at the local imported wine shop where most of the bottles are $40 or more. This is a bit of an indulgence and I can only really afford one bottle a week.
Until now.
Chris has taken a fancy to a brand of wine called Tibetan Dry. He likes to say “Tibetan Dry” in a deep, manly voice and quirk his eyebrows at me like we share a naughty secret. Much to Chris’s hand-clapping glee, we found several varieties of the Tibetan Dry red wine at the supermarket ranging from $5 to $13. Considering we’d been told that if you spend a little more you can get a good bottle (“It might taste a little funky, but it’s not to bad”) so we went for the middle.
Hoping, but trying not to really expect anything, I watched Chris pour the wine. Hmmmm, the color looks right. Not orangey like the others… it’s not gurgling bubbles… smells…hey, smells kinda normal…
I took a sip of this Chinese- Tibetan- version of Cabernet Sauvingon. And… and… omigod it tastes like real wine! It doesn’t burn, it doesn’t burn!
Smooth, thick, more carmely than fruity and.. hell. I don’t care. We found a good doodle wine! We found a good doodle wine!
